Auditions
Our auditions for “A Killing Time” are set. Big thanks to everyone who applied. We will let you know how pre-production progresses. For the curious, we continue to run the request below, but are no longer accepting inquiries.
We invite you to apply to audition for our first film, “A Killing Time,” which will be shot entirely on Maui.
The 24-minute film begins shooting in October. We need one man, one woman. The ideals are actors in their late 20′s who can look mid-30′s or vice-versa. (In other words, the characters are younger people who’ve had a rough life and it shows a bit.) This is NOT a travel, adult or “modeling” film. It’s comedy/drama, or at least we hope it will be. No sex or nudity. The actors do kiss and are affectionate (they are a couple). Oh, and they handle guns, though no bullets are used, so if that freaks you out….
Each actor will be paid $1,000.00 in escrow – paid out at completion – for up to six days of rehearsal/readings/shooting in a ten-day period. (You must be available to us ANY six days within those ten.) You will be fed on site. Some shooting is outdoors. If we fail to complete the script within those ten days (i.e. bad weather), we’ll ask to hire you for $200 per day until the film is finished. If you cannot complete the extra days, that’s our problem – you will have fulfilled your ten-day obligation and will be paid. But fail to show up once during the initial ten-day agreement, you’re unpaid history. It is our hope and intention to complete the film within one week – the ten days is insurance. Shooting is daylight and evening, and the first actual day of shooting will be VERY LONG. Very.
As some Shakespeare is quoted, if you have experience with the language, we’d love to hear from you. But we intend to hire good actors, not necessarily long resumes. If you have a film clip for us, great. If you’re a good actor with a professional demeanor, you’re half-way hired.
Please apply digitally by Friday September 4, 2009, to audition@betterlatethanneverfilms.com, with photo(s), clips, resume, anything you want to tell us about yourself, and a contact phone number. We will confirm (by email) receipt of your application, and then contact you again about our decision, one way or the other. We will not leave you hanging. If we like you, it’s a two-step process. The first is a personal interview and audition (filmed) on Maui (you should have three to five minutes of monologue, at least one minute of which is Shakespeare). The second is a contract which basically stipulates the above.
We think we’re pretty nice, happy people who enjoy our work. We laugh a lot. We will only hire those with similar outlooks in life but you’ll be much better actors than we are. We just produce, write, direct.
We’d like to hire good people from Maui, but if you are from another island, of course you can apply. Be aware that we DO NOT have transportation funding, nor room and board, for you.
The movie will be completed over the winter (editing, etc.) and submitted to festivals on the mainland and in Europe in Spring.
